The 1st Battle Group, 7th Infantry officially assumed command of the Aschaffenburg military from the 87th Infantry in a change of command ceremony at Graves Casern. The colors of the 87th were cased and those of the 7th unfurled as Col William A. Purdy, 87th commander turned over the command to 7th Infantry Commander Col William P. Yarborough.

Known to the Germans as Bois-Brule Kaseme, Graves Barracks was first occupied by U.S. troops in the summer of 1949. Elements of the U.S. Army, 10th Division, 18th Infantry, 1st Battalion were stationed on the kaserne from 1949 until 1955. In 1955, the kaseme was occupied by the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, until 1958.
