In all, Tennessee leaders passed more than a billion dollars in new programs and projects, including school voucher expansion, new immigration enforcement laws and relief for East Tennessee.

Tennessee lawmakers are poised to wrap up their special session Thursday after quickly advancing controversial measures to expand school vouchers and ramp up the state's participation in President Trump's immigration crackdown.

So far, after Monday’s start, the Senate has passed an immigration bill and a disaster relief bill that would help victims of Hurricane Helene in Tennessee. These bills will still have to be passed by the House in order to head to Lee’s desk for signing.

In its special session, the Tennessee legislature is taking on immigration bills, but not without some input from the public that caused state troopers to forcibly remove audience members.

Lawmakers passed seven bills through 17 committee hearings in a span of a day. Final votes set for Thursday on vouchers and immigration.

The special session at the state Capitol was abruptly halted Wednesday after police forcibly removed several protestors from the audience.
