Four people are now set for execution in 2025 after years of Tennessee pausing its execution process for death penalty cases.

The state of Tennessee has filed orders to reset execution dates for death row inmates Byron Black, Oscar Smith, Harold Nichols, and Donald Middlebrooks. The last execution in Tennessee took place in February 2020.

Tennessee is expected to resume its death penalty soon, after executions were halted for years while the state's process was reviewed.

The Tennessee Supreme Court has ordered four men to be executed before the end of this year, including a Chattanoogan dubbed "the red-headed stranger" by local news media.
