The Mexican government is rushing to raise tent cities for migrants deported from the U.S. Thousands of non-Mexicans now stranded in the country are overwhelming immigration officials as migrants continue to arrive from Central and South America.

The US-Mexico border is effectively closed off to migrants seeking asylum in the United States within hours of President Donald Trump taking office, an extraordinary departure from previous protocols that has left many concerned migrants in limbo.

Mexico has received more than 4,000 migrants deported from the U.S., including non-Mexicans, in the past week, President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Monday. Sheinbaum had previously said that Mexico had not agreed to the restart of the "Return to Mexico" program by the administration of U.

More than 2,000 migrants from various countries began walking early Monday in southern Mexico hoping to reach the United States despite president Donald Trump’s threats of mass deportations and limiting asylum.
