President Donald Trump spoke by phone to Russian President Vladimir Putin, breaking a years-long silence between the Oval Office and the Kremlin.

If Russia is left alone with America, Putin with Trump, or their teams, they will receive manipulative information,” the Ukrainian president warned. European leaders said they should not be left out and insisted the West should seek to “put Ukraine in a position of strength”.

After speaking with Putin for more than an hour, Trump said the Russian leader wants the war to end and they discussed "getting a ceasefire in the not-too-distant future."
