Stanley Knox, who served as Detroit police chief during one of the most tumultuous periods in the police department's history, died Feb. 14 at age 85.

Todd Bettison, who has served three months as interim Detroit Police Chief, has been given a permanent appointment for the role. Mayor Mike Duggan made his recommendation for Bettison public on Feb. 10.

The Detroit City Council on Tuesday officially approved Mayor Mike Duggan's appointment of the new police chief. Interim Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison will ditch the "interim" title to officially lead the Detroit Police Department.
