ROANOKE, Va. – A piece of Asheville’s art community has found a temporary home in Roanoke, where artists whose studios or art were destroyed by severe flooding have found support at a local studio.

Human traffickers are trickling into western North Carolina to exploit the trail of vulnerability that Hurricane Helene left in its wake, a law enforcement representative warned at a recent North Carolina Human Trafficking Commission meeting.

Temperatures are dropping, and many hurricane survivors are living in tents or trailers without insulation. More than 100,000 homes were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Helene across Western North Carolina.
