NEW YORK — Jules Feiffer, a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist and writer whose prolific output ranged from a long-running comic strip to plays, screenplays and children’s books, died Friday. He was 95 and, true to his seemingly tireless form, published his last book just four months ago.

In his long-running Village Voice comic strip and in his many plays and screenplays, he took delight in skewering politics, relationships and human nature.

Cartoonist Jules Feiffer, best known for his eponymous comic strip in The Village Voice, has died. He was 95. Feiffer died of congestive heart failure at his home in upstate New York, his representative Gail Hochman confirmed to USA TODAY in an email Tuesday.

But Feiffer's illustration work, specifically that of a cartoonist who drew humorous strips for magazines, was long and varied. Back in 1958, he became a regular cartoonist for Playboy, which meant he was one of the contributors who joined that magazine during its first decade in business.
