Riviera Beach is facing an unusual situation: no eligible candidates to be its ceremonial leader in the March 11 election.

A former City Council member on Tuesday unseated a controversial incumbent, while another incumbent held off a challenge from a former Council member.

The Riviera Beach City Council will appoint a temporary mayor to serve a two-year term. Residents interested in serving as mayor can submit applications to the city between March 26 and April 4.
