The Southeastern Conference has postponed Thursday night's women's basketball game between No. 5 LSU and No. 2 South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina, until Friday because of winter weather. The decision Wednesday comes a day after a winter storm dropped about a foot of snow in parts of south Louisiana and made travel hazardous in subtropical communities that possess little in the way of snow-clearing equipment for roads and airports.

A major winter storm that has spread snow across Southern states this week, including the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida and Louisiana, has impacted multiple sporting events in the region.

Blizzard warnings have been issued for areas near the Gulf Coast as a massive winter storm hits the South. Nearly 250 million Americans are under cold weather advisories or extreme cold warnings.

The game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on ESPN. The South Alabama Jaguars have added the Morgan State Bears to their 2025 football schedule, according to South Alabama's official website.

South Alabama will now open the 2025 season on Aug. 30 vs. Morgan State at Hancock Whitney Stadium, according to the school’s online schedule. The Jaguars had previously been set to host Florida A&M on that date, but that game has been moved to Sept. 16, 2029. A South Alabama football spokesman confirmed the change to AL.com.
