The Republican Party announced on Wednesday that Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick will be the keynote speaker for the annual Lincoln-Reagan Day on March 1 at Boyd Farm in Lavon, Texas Patrick has served in his office since 2015 and was also the Texas campaign chair for Donald Trump's successful 2024 presidential campaign.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has long been a leading conservative voice in Texas. The stalwart Republican says he doesn’t yet know if Burrows will impact his hopes for a conservative agenda, but he expressed concern.

“I think it’s clear, but I’m also open to the idea that some doctors don’t see it that way, some hospitals don’t think that way,” said Patrick, a Republican who presides over the Texas Senate. “We don’t want to stand in the way of that, but we’re not going to open it up so that abortion is prevalent again in the state.”

Gov. Greg Abbott will lay out his legislative priorities Sunday night during his biennial State of the State address giving lawmakers marching orders on what topics he wants them to fast-track this session.

Critically for Trump’s purposes, the amendment is not restricted to consecutive terms. Virtually every constitutional scholar agrees that the two-term limit applies to any two terms by a single person, even if those terms are not back-to-back.
