It wasn't the most exciting game. But sometimes, like goals, they don't ask how wins happen; they ask how many.

On Saturday, January 18th, the Devils’ afternoon plans were derailed by the Philadelphia Flyers, who handed them their third consecutive loss with a 3-1 win at Prudential Center, extending their losing streak and giving the Flyers their second straight victory.

The Flyers held the Devils to a season-low 14 shots. New Jersey’s previous low was 16 shots against Edmonton in a 3-0 win back on Nov. 4. It was also a season low for shots allowed by the Flyers this season. Their previous low was 17 vs. Toronto.

After defeating the New York Islanders on Thursday, 5-3, the Philadelphia Flyers (21-20-6) traveled down to Newark, New Jersey, to take on the New Jersey Devils (26-16-6) in another Metropolitan Division showdown.

Bobby Brink scored the go-ahead goal with 7:16 left in the third period to help the visiting Philadelphia Flyers to a 3-1 win against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday in Newark, N.J.

The Flyers (21-20-6) matched their season-best point streak of five games (4-0-1), something they’ve done two other times. They’ve outscored opponents 20-9 over this run. The Flyers see the Devils (26-16-6) twice more before the end of January and once more in March.

The Flyers could use a long-term option down the middle of the ice, making Sabres star Dylan Cozens a trade fit.

On Friday, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced it has suspended New York Islanders forward Max Tsyplakov for three games for his illegal check to the head of Flyers forward Ryan Poehling on Thursday night. The third game of his suspension is a rematch between the Flyers and Islanders at UBS Arena.
