Two senior Justice Department officials appointed by President Donald Trump to run the Library of Congress were denied access on Monday, according to a person familiar with the interaction.

A brief standoff unfolded on Capitol Hill after library workers turned away two top Justice Department officials installed by Todd Blanche, the deputy attorney general, who has been named acting librarian.

The Trump administration fired the United States' top copyright official over the weekend, following the dismissal of the librarian of Congress late last week.
