Florida is bracing as Hurricane Milton rapidly intensified into a Category 1 storm on Sunday, days before it’s expected to make landfall on the state’s Gulf Coast where communities are still dealing with the effects of Hurricane Helene.

Days after Helene struck Florida's Big Bend coast as a Category 4 hurricane, Milton rapidly intensified into a hurricane and appeared to aim at Florida.

Milton is tracking towards areas already devastated by Hurricane Helene, which struck northern Florida on 26 September. On Sunday evening, Milton was about 780 miles from Tampa with sustained winds of 85mph.
