An examination of the dog found dead along with actor Gene Hackman and his wife in their Santa Fe home shows dehydration and starvation were likely what led to the animal’s demise.

Gene Hackman, 95, died of cardiovascular and Alzheimer's disease likely around Feb. 18, about one week after his wife, officials said.

Just last week authorities revealed the causes of death for legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, who were found dead in their home on Feb. 26. Authorities confirmed last week that Hackman died of heart disease with Alzheimer’s disease playing a significant contributing role.
