Anyone who shares a birthday with the author can get a free copy of "The Cat in the Hat." But what is Dr. Seuss Day and why do we celebrate it?

I don't know of any child who doesn't have at least one book by Dr. Seuss in their home library. It's a given, considering he has written so many great children's books: In my home, I always stumped for How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

I grew up reading Dr. Seuss books like “Hop on Pop,” but one of my favorite memories was when my high school AP environmental science teacher read “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” to our class of juniors and seniors.

Youngsters gathered around the George W. Armstron Library for fun games, hotdogs and readings of beloved Dr. Seuss books for the library’s annual Dr. Seuss Block party on Saturday. Readers and volunteers donned striped “Cat in the Hat”-themed hats for the event.

Children are celebrating Read Across America, and the Mississippi Children’s Museum of Meridian took this opportunity to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday.

It’ll be a “Cat in the Hat” kind of day when the City Library hosts its Dr. Seuss Birthday Extravaganza on Feb, 28, 2025.

Sheila Bradley of Osborne Books said there was a line of customers waiting to get their free books on Sunday during the Read Across America event, which promoted reading at the Kukui Grove Center.
