Despite the pitch from Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders and the quick social media acceptance from Orange coach Fran Brown, the two sides were denied a waiver for a joint spring game, the Division I FBS oversight committee announced Friday.

Unfortunately, there will be no Colorado vs. Syracuse spring game. However, the NCAA did say that they will revisit the topic of allowing joint practices at a later date. The silver lining is that the Buffs and Orange may have gotten the ball rolling. Perhaps next season we’ll get Sanders vs. Brown in Boulder, but not this April.

The NCAA continues to be out of step with the new dance moves of college sports. Via Griffin McVeigh of On3.com, the collegiate athletics governing body has declined a request from Colorado and Syracuse to have joint practices followed by a scrimmage.

With tampering running rampant in college football, the USC Trojans were one of a handful of programs to cancel their annual spring game. So did Nebraska, Texas
