The New York Rangers has a rough night on Tuesday. Not only did the team fall further back in the Metropolitan Division standings with a 4-0 loss to the Hurricanes at home, but they also helped validate every part of the blockbuster Mikko Rantanen trade.

Miller, 31, is the big prize in the deal. He’s had a down year amidst reports of a fractured locker room in Vancouver. The Canucks were expected to move either him or Elias Petterson in hopes of breaking up the discontent on that team. Miller has nine goals and 26 assists this season after three straight seasons of at least 30.

The #NYR have the distinction of allowing the first post-trade point to everyone in the Mikko Rantanen blockbuster. Rantanen and Taylor Hall each have assists tonight, their first points as Hurricanes. Jack Drury scored against NY on Sunday, and Martin Nečas had two assists.

After suffering a stunning last-second loss to Colorado on Sunday, things went from bad to worse in the homestand finale Tuesday night as the Rangers dropped their second straight, 4-0, to the new-look Carolina Hurricanes to close the homestand 2-2 and finish January 8-3-3.
