Iron Range mining facilities are facing layoffs but a professor of economics says their roles are likely too valuable to be out of the job for good.

Nearly 600 Iron Range steelworkers are being temporarily laid off in early May due to an excess accumulation of iron ore. Workers at Hibbing Taconite Company and Minorca Mine are being impacted. Cleveland Cliffs officials don't have a timeline for how long the layoffs will be.
