Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is touting the support of some top officials for her firing of Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley, while others including the head of fire department’s union and at least one City Council member are assailing the mayor’s unusual move.

Mayor Karen Bass fired Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley Friday, foisting blame on her for what the mayor called failures in leadership stemming from the January windstorm that led to the deadly wildfire that ravaged Pacific Palisades.

In a letter to the Los Angeles City Council, Kristin Crowley filed her formal appeal to reverse Mayor Karen Bass' decision to remove her as fire chief.
