Training, few positions have been as in flux as the Boston Red Sox’s starting second baseman spot. But as the preseason’s final week wraps up, rookie Kristian Campbell has seemingly emerged as the frontrunner.

The Red Sox announced another batch of cuts from big league camp, and among the notable names is one of the club’s contenders for the starting second base job.

Campbell had a hit Thursday in his first game, and although it might be ruled an error, he had an unquestionable hit Friday.

In Boston’s 4-3 loss to the Rangers, Devers went 0-for-4 and struck out three times, including his last at-bat that saw him swing and miss a 92.3 mph cutter from former teammate Chris Martin in the ninth inning. Aside from a bases-loaded walk in the second inning on Saturday, Devers is 0-for-12 to start the year.

The teams split 16 hits, but catcher Jonah Heim slugged two solo homers for Texas and the Red Sox didn't score after the fourth.
