One of six New York state prison guards indicted on murder charges in connection with the beating death of an inmate has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter.

A New York correction officer pleaded guilty Monday in the beating death of Robert Brooks. Brooks was beaten by officers at Marcy Correctional Facility on Dec. 9, 2024 while his hands were cuffed behind his back. The beating was caught on body camera video. Brooks died the next day.

One of the corrections officers involved in the brutal beating and death of Robert Brooks has accepted their negotiated plea deal.
