A Powerball player experienced beginner’s luck in North Carolina when she won a huge prize on her first try with the game, lottery officials said.

A Georgia lottery player missed the Powerball jackpot by a number — but still walked away a winner. The lucky player won $50,000 after matching four numbers and the Powerball in the Jan. 29 drawing, narrowly missing the $71 million jackpot prize, according to the Georgia Lottery.
