The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Wednesday paused federal funds for certain Maine educational programs in response to the state's opposition to banning transgender women from competing in women's sports in Maine.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has frozen funds to some Maine educational programs over the state's refusal to ban transgender women from sports, said a press release from Secretary Brooke Rollins.

The agency will freeze an unknown amount of money for 'administrative and technological functions' in schools but will not pause federal food programs or direct assistance for Mainers.
