Mayor Brandon Johnson defended his hiring practices after the U.S. Department of Justice sent a letter notifying him they are opening an investigation into the City of Chicago.

The Justice Department launched a probe into whether Chicago engaged in racially discriminatory hiring practices after Mayor Brandon Johnson touted black hires.

The investigation fits with the Trump administration’s larger realignment of how federal agencies view and fight discrimination. It’s also part of a larger remaking of the DOJ's civil rights division.
