A Virginia developer is planning to build Kentucky’s first “hyperscale” data center in Louisville, an operation that could eventually use as much electricity as one of the state’s power plants produces.

The Menlo Park, California-based tech giant plans to open a new 700,000-square-foot data center at the industrial park, employing 100 workers. Meta has about 20 data centers across the country.

PowerHouse Data Centers, a developer for hyperscale data centers, along with Poe Companies announce plans for a 400 MW data center campus in Louisville.

AREP-owned PowerHouse this week revealed plans for a 400MW data center campus in Louisville alongside real estate firm Poe Companies. PowerHouse and Poe have secured an initial power capacity of 335MW for the campus with near-term expansion of up to 402MW.

The project will require a staggering 400 megawatts once it is fully online. For context, that’s enough to power about 400,000 homes every month.
