President Donald Trump is openly challenging U.S. allies by increasing tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports to 25% as he vows to take back wealth he says was “stolen” by other countries.

The typical American consumer is highly unlikely to purchase raw steel or aluminum on their own. That might lead them to believe their wallets are shielded from the 25% tariffs President Donald Trump levied on the two metals with no exemptions or exceptions on Wednesday.

President Trump imposed a 25 percent tariff on metal imports, sparking new global trade spats as he attempts to shield the U.S. economy from foreign competition.

It will not be the f irst time Trump has placed tariffs on steel and aluminum, both of which are crucial for industries like construction and manufacturing. In 2018, during his first term, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on steel and a 10% tariff on aluminum imports.

In response to Ontario imposing a new tax on electricity supplied to three U.S. states, President Trump said he wants to double steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada.
