The park was absolutely beautiful and we also did the cave tour! We had two others join us on the tour who spoke Spanish, but little English, and we spoke English and very little Spanish. Our guide O…Full review by oliviapT1087OF

Visiting Barra Honda and taking the cave tour was one of the best experiences of my life! My husband and I had a blast! Our tour started at the Mirador, one of the highest view points in Guanacaste.…Full review by dharmaanddogs

This cave is way overpriced. I paid $13.56 to enter the park and that is the price of the parks and you can probably see animals and do some nice hikes. The mirador had a nice view and we saw a group…Full review by fesss2018
We will be heading here in a week. I have a six year old and ten year old. Will a cave be open for them to explore? They are adventurous. Thanks!!

You'll have to check their website for the hours for when it's open, but some tips.... Get there early, take water, it's a bit of a hike so be mindful of that. The ladder into the cave is about 6 stories high, but you get harness and roped up and we felt completely safe. There was a family with young kids in our group, maybe 7-9 years old. You will get helmets and headlamps. I wouldn't recommend it if anyone is claustrophobic. There are a couple tight spaces. The footing can be a little slippery. You'll want to use your hands for support but the rocks have a lot of bat guano. So take hand sanitizer, maybe even surgical gloves....and no bathrooms. And btw, we loved it, so by all means, given the above info, go if you can!

Dear Peter, the safest bet would be to stay at Liberia and rent a car in order to drive towards Barra Honda, which is not too far. You could possibly make the drive in an hour, and Liberia has many more options in terms of hotels, restaurants, car rentals, supermarkets etc. However, if you are planning on staying at the beach, there are other places (much nicer that Liberia) to stay and are within thetwo hours or hour and a half drive. I could recommend Puntarenas if you wish to be closer to San José. If you want nicer beaches, although farther from San José, there is Tamarindo, Sámara, Nosara. Slightly longer frive would be Papagayo. It all depends on where you want to be staying, and what kind of commodities you wish to have. Hope I was able to help!
Is there, or is there not, somewhere to stay at Barra Honda National Park? I am heading up there tomorrow and not sure if I should get a room in Nicoya or head straight to the Park. I am not fussy about what it is, as I need it close to the park as my time there is limited. Rustic is fine. Can someone please help?!

Hello, what did you discover about the cabins in the park? I am having trouble getting details, too. Do you have advice? Are they available?
