Create a box with fire bricks with an opening in the side for the burner and let it rip. Would get a piece of 1084 up to quench temp in ~2min.

WEBFeb 12, 2018 — Yes, you do need a regulator for the most efficient use of the forge. A 0-30 psi regulator is best and the regulators used for BBQ's are not adequate. The weed burners at Harbor Freight have a regulator that works just be sure it's for propane. I actually used the body of a Harbor Freight weed burner for my torch.

However a caster friend of mine uses a couple in his burn out kiln, the unconsumed oxy in the flame and excess water vapor assists burning out wax. On the up side you got a good hose, needle valve and piezoelectric igniter.

You might be able to get a snug fitting sleeve and get it to work that way, with some tweaking. Then lock it in place with a set screw.
